ABOUT THE WORD XUAN KONG 玄空
The word XuanKong 玄空 had been translated and interpreted in many ways. Mostly it depends on the Fengshui school’s understanding of this word.
The SanYuan understanding and interpretation is slightly different from that of the SanHe understanding. In the QingNang AoYu and TianYu Jing, there were several mention of this word XuanKong.
To quote Qing Nang Ao Yu:
雌与雄交会合玄空,雄与雌玄空卦内寻
Ci and Xiong interaction conforms to XuanKong, Xiong 雄 and Ci 雌 can find within the Gua of XuanKong 玄空.
Ci and Xiong 雌与雄 are actually Yin and Yang, but, they are the ‘substantial” aspect of YinYang. Yin and Yang originally are both the abstract aspect of two extremes, such as male and female.
When we talk about Yin and Yang as Qi, we are referring to the non-substantial abstract aspect. On the other-hand when we talk about Ci and Xiong, we are talking about the substantial solid aspect.
Ci 雌 means female. Xiong 雄 means male.
So when you read the classics and find these two words, it actually means the male and female substantial aspect of phenomena.
Another verse is:
玄空卦内寻
明玄空,只在五行中
To understand XuanKong, everything is within the 5 Elements. This verse has a very deep meaning. One aspect is that it is talking about the Dian Dian Dao theory of the 72 Dragons.
Another aspect is it is talking about the universal aspect of XuanKong.
“明玄空,只在五行中” and “玄空卦内寻”
These two phrases are actually pointing towards the mystical and profound YiJing Trigrams and Hexagrams that are in play within the mysterious and abstruse energy of the universe.
The word Xuan 玄 means abstruse, mysterious or mystical; or it can mean black, deep dark unknown. The word Kong 空 means empty or void; or it can mean the sky or space.
When you coin these two singular words together as XuanKong 玄空,and try to find its meaning in any Chinese dictionary, you might not find any specific interpretation or meaning. Mostly, you might find a break up translation of individual word, such as Xuan 玄 as mysterious; and Kong 空 as empty.
So, eventually you might need to rely on Chinese Metaphysics masters to give you a translation of this word XuanKong 玄空. In a gist, XuanKong 玄空 actually means the ‘Mysterious mystical voidness of the universal space’.
This is very abstract, but, in simple terms it can be understood in the contemporary sense as the ‘Universal energy that gives life to all phenomena on earth.’
If you read the following phrase, you might see this point.
Tian Yu Jing:
关天关地定雌雄,富贵此中逢。翻天倒地对不同,秘密在玄空。
Great concern of Heaven and Earth is fixing Male and Female; nobility prosperity can be found within. Flipping the Heaven and overturning the Earth matching not the same, the secret is in the XuanKong.
“The secret is in the XuanKong” actually means you can find the secret working of universal energy in the mysterious voidness of the universe.

About YangGong FengShui
YangGong GuFa Fengshui means YangGong ancient method FengShui.
This is an ancient Fengshui method that was developed by the legendary figure Yang Jun Song (834Ad – 904 AD) who was an official under the command of Imperial Master. He is now widely recognized by all Fengshui schools as the Great Great Grandmaster of Classical Chinese Fengshui.
According to historical accounts, he was the officer in charge of building works and was given the duty of managing the top secret vault that contains all the Chinese Metaphysics texts. It was during the HuangChao rebellion (peasant rebellion) that threw out the Tang royal family, that, Yang Jun Song managed to escape and brought with him many important Metaphysics texts.
He escaped to a mountain, presently called Yang Xian Ling, and became a monk to avoid detection by the victorious rebels as well as the remnants of the Imperial Guards. He studied the texts and was able to master the Metaphysics knowledge and later went on to develop his own brand of Fengshui.
He innovated on the old Luopan that used to have only 12 Earth Branches on the Earth plate. By adding 4 Trigrams in the four ordinal positions, and added 8 heavenly stems in between the Earth Branches. From there he developed the 72 Dragons and complimented this with the 12 Qi phase of the Five Elements..
These 72 dragons became the mainstay of YangGong Fengshui theory and practice.
Presently, there are a few types of YangGong Fengshui being practiced worldwide, and especially in China, where it is the place of the ‘Origin of Fengshui’. There are, including YangGong GuFa Fengshui, the New Method of YangGong Fengshui called YangGong XinFa. The new methods started to be developed about two generations after Yang Jun Song (834AD -- 904AD) died.
When he was alive, he had several closed door disciples and amongst them two were quite famous. One was Liu Jiang Dong, and another was Ceng Wen Can. Ceng Wen Can was reputed to be the prodigy of Yang Jun Song because it was rumoured that he was the keeper of all the secret writings of Yang Jun Song.
During those days, Yang Gong Fengshui was only taught to male descendants of the disciples of Yang Jun Song, and no outsiders could get access to the teachings. It was about two generations later that it started to change. It will be too lengthy to go into historical details here, but in a nutshell, YangGong Fengshui, especially during the Song Dynasty, slowly was being taught to disciples who were not family members.
The lineage that I come from is called the Yu Che Tsng lineage. Its partriarch was Grand Master LiDing Xin.
GM Li received the lineage teachings from his grand-uncle Li San Su. The classical texts that he received from his Grand-uncle were:
1. ZangShu
2. Qing Nang Ao Yu
3. Outline of Tian Yu Jing
4. Yu Che Jing
Here is a brief description of the three texts:
Qing Nang Ao Yu (青囊奥语) is a book on the formulae expounded by Yang Jun Song. The main idea inside is the 72 dragons and how to audit internal Qi to marry with external Qi;
TianYu Jing (天玉经) is all about the practical usage of the LouPan and application of all the YangGong FengShui formulae. Some adherents like to say that TianYu Jing is the ‘Mother of Explanation’ of the LouPan. Thus the phrase: 天玉经是罗经解之祖;
YuChe Jing 玉尺经is the standard Table of the outcomes of the application of the formulae as taught in Qing Nang Ao Yu.
YangGong GuFa Fengshui is different from SanHe Fengshui although there are many similarities. The main difference if YGFS uses the sitting mountain to audit while SanHe used the facing to audit.
